Speech Therapy Jobs on Social Work and Care Jobs

Speech and language therapists work with children and adults to assess and treat speech, language and communication problems. They may also work with people who have eating and swallowing problems.

Speech therapists often work closely with teachers and other health professionals such as: doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapist and occupational therapists. Typically a speech therapist will assess each individuals needs before developing a programme suited to them.

Clients may have difficulties with speech, language, and stammer/voice problem. This may be caused by a stroke, cancer of the throat, head injury, hearing loss, deafness, cleft palate, dementia, learning/physical disability, neurological disorder or psychiatric disorders.

Around 2.5 million people in the UK alone have speech or language difficulty, therapists in this specialist field are required in hospitals, community health centres, schools, day centres and clients homes.
